5th Grade will be learning about the beginning of Civil War. We will be learning about how the attitude towards the war shifted after the battle of Bull Run. We will also be learning about Harriet Tubman and Sojourner Truth, important women in the abolitionist movement. Students will start making journal entries, keeping a record of the Civil War's important events in their History notebook. There will not be a quiz this week.

We will be reviewing Ch 17 and having a quiz on it on Thursday and Friday (for 5A and 5B). They will need to know the vocabulary in the Chapter, their imperfect verb endings, and noun/verb parsing. We will be starting the review Ch 18 afterwards. On Wednesday they will be rediscovering the story of Aeneas and his journey to Italy.
We will be finishing our review of what we have learned in Latin thus far and will be beginning Ch 14, which adds more vocabulary and a new set of endings for 2nd Conjugation verbs. We will not have a quiz this week.
5th Grade will be learning about the Underground Railroad early on in the week and will be working on a study guide for the Causes of the Civil War unit. We will also be creating a timeline for this unit to help with the chronological order of events. We will be having a test on Friday. Their study guide will be given to them on Wednesday. They will have some time to work on the study guide in class (The guide is meant to help students study and will not be due as homework but they will have a homework sheet for this week).
5th Grade will be continuing with Ch. 17 and will practice parsing nouns and verbs in Latin sentences. 5B will be learning about Scipio Africanus and his role in the 2nd Punic war. (5A will learn about this story near the end of the quarter) There will be no quiz this week.
This week will be a review week for what we have learned throughout the year. We will be going through Ch. 13 to review the grammar and vocabulary we have covered so far. This is an opportunity for the students to catch up if they are having trouble memorizing their endings or vocabulary words. There will be no quiz this week. 4B will also be learning about the beginning of Aeneas' tale as he escapes from the city of Troy. (4A will hear this tale near the end of the quarter)
We will be learning about the rising tensions between the North and the South through the study of the Compromise of 1850 and the people involved such as John C. Calhoun, Daniel Webster, and Henry Clay. We will have a quiz on Friday.
5th Grade will be continuing their study of Ch 16 and the Imperfect Tense verb endings in that chapter. We will be reviewing the chapter and then having a quiz on Thursday for 5A and Friday for 5B. It may be beneficial to have them study their review sheet to prepare for the quiz. We will begin Ch. 17 after the quiz.
We will be continuing our study of Ch. 12 and adjectives in Latin. We will be reviewing the Chapter and they will have a quiz on Chapter 12 on Thursday for 4A and Friday for 4B. Practicing their adjective endings and vocabulary in Ch 12 would be beneficial.
5th Grade will be learning about the Missouri Compromise and Frederick Douglass this week. We will be focused on slavery in the US and how the nation was divided on it. We will be having a seminar on Friday on Frederick Douglass and slavery in the US.
