We will be studying more Renaissance artists this week such as Michelangelo and Raphael. We will have another weekly packet that will be due Friday. I would recommend that students proofread and check their answers on their packets. There were many incomplete sentences and incorrect/blank answers even though we review the correct answers in class. There will be a quiz on Friday this week but no seminar.

This week in History we will be covering manners and proper behavior in the Renaissance. We will also be learning about Renaissance women and what they did during this time. Finally, we will be discussing Leonardo da Vinci as the embodiment of a Renaissance man. The students will receive another weekly packet for which they will be responsible to complete by the end of the week. Some students did not complete or have their packets to hand in on Friday. Not completing or turning in these packets will hurt their homework grades. We will be having a quiz on Friday on Chapters 4-6. We will also be having a mini seminar on the importance of manners and Castiglione's The Courtier.
We will begin our study of the Renaissance beginning with its origins and a review of the Middle Ages. We will be learning about the Medici family, Machiavelli, and how the Renaissance flourished in Italy. We will also be learning about how the popes and the Catholic Church were involved in the Renaissance. We will have a quiz on Friday along with a mini seminar on Machiavelli and his work, The Prince. We will be using a new textbook for the Renaissance and Reformation units called Rats, Bulls, and Flying Machines. We will also be taking notes in a different manner for the next several weeks. I will give students a weekly packet with questions for each Chapter in our textbook. The students are responsible for completing these questions as homework if they do not complete them in class. We will discuss the answers to the questions in the following day of class. They will be able to use the answers to these questions to help them study for quizzes and tests.
We will only be having one class with each 5th Grade section this week. We will begin Ch. 7, which contains our 2nd declension noun endings and some new vocabulary words.
