We hope that your students will have a lot of fun in our classes, developing useful and transferable skills while studying Latin, and think deeply about language and the hidden history of English. There is so much to find wonder in. This is what we will be studying this quarter.
K-3rd: Animals, Numbers, Declension Endings (for Latin nouns), Latin quotes/phrases. 4th-5th: 1st Conjugation Verbs, 1st Declension Nouns, Latin and English Grammar 4th and 5th Grade will be making flashcards for their vocabulary words. It is absolutely essential that students make a nightly practice of reviewing their flashcards. Ten minutes will suffice. It can even be done in the car on the way home. Nothing will so ensure their success in Latin. Tests in Latin draw upon vocabulary cumulatively, so it can be quite overwhelming for a student if they have not been making a small, nightly routine of learning those words. When students cultivate this discipline, however, they give themselves the wonderful gift of finding greater joy and confidence in their studies, and they’ve developed a disciplined habit they can transfer to any subject! We look forward to teaching your students Latin, Mr. DePauw and Mr. Lafave |
