K-2: We will be learning new animals such as aquila (ah-qwee-la), which means eagle. We will learn numbers up to 20. For 1st and 2nd Grade we will review the 1st half of the quarter's animals and numbers up to 20. Students will receive a review sheet but you can also download down below. 3rd: We will be starting Chapter 2, learning 10 new nouns and the Present Tense verb endings. 4th: We will be reviewing Chapter 2 on Thursday in preparation for a quiz on the following Monday. Students will receive a review sheet to take home.

K-2: We will be learning new animal names such as "cancer" (cahn-kair). We will also be expanding our Latin numbers. Kinder will be learning 11-16 and 1st-2nd will be learning all the way to 20. 3A + 3C-Students will have their Chapter 1 review on Tuesday. They will receive a study guide to take home and study for their quiz. Their Chapter 1 quiz will be on Friday. 3B-Students will have their Chapter 1 review on Monday. They will receive a study guide to take home and study for their quiz. Their quiz will be on Thursday. 4C: Students will be taking their Chapter 1 quiz on Monday. We will begin Chapter 2 on Thursday, learning 10 Latin nouns and the Present Tense verb endings. 4th Grade (4C) will be receiving their review sheet for Chapter 1 tomorrow. They will be taking their quiz for Chapter 1 on Monday. I have attached the review sheet below for the quiz. Students are supposed to bring home their review sheet tomorrow.
K-2: Students will learn their numbers up to 10 or "decem" in Latin. We will also be learning the Latin names of several animals such as "mus" (pronounced moose) and Lupus (pronounced loo-poose). We will also be learning about nouns and the 1st Declension noun endings. 3-4: We will continuing Chapter 1, learning the rest of the vocabulary and how to study in preparation for quizzes. Below I have attached what the students will receive. They will receive their review sheet and quiz next week. Quiz dates will be posted during the next blog update.
K-2: Students will continue practicing procedures this week. They will also be learning the Latin names of new animals including vacca, which means cow (pronounced wahk-kah). We will also start learning our Latin numbers starting with unus, duo, and tres (one, two, and three).
3rd-4th: Students will continue practice procedures. They will begin Chapter 1 this week, learning the Chapter's five verbs. Welcome Parents!
I am Mr. DePauw and will be teaching K-4 Latin. Mr. Lafave will be teaching two of the three 4th grade sections and all of 5th grade this year. My weekly Latin blog will give updates on what your scholars are learning in my Latin classes. It will also share quiz dates a week in advance for 3rd-4th grade. K-2: During the first week of school, the focus will be on learning and practicing classroom procedures. They will learn two vocabulary words-"canis" (pronounced cah-nees) which means dog and "feles" (pronounced fay-lays) which means cat. 3-4: During the first week of school the focus will be on learning and practicing classroom procedures. Students will learn and discuss the meaning of the saying "E Pluribus Unum" which means "Out of many, one". K-2: We will be having our final vocabulary knowledge check this week as well as reviewing everything we have learned over the last 4 quarters.
3-4th: We will have our Chapter 15 review on Monday and have our final Chapter 15 quiz on Friday. 5th: We will be practicing reading and writing simple Latin sentences and answering simple Latin questions. K-2: We will be reviewing the vocabulary from all four quarters and preparing for our final Vocabulary Challenge of the year.
3rd: We will begin Chapter 15, learning the vocabulary and grammar of that chapter. 4th: We will take our Chapter 14 quiz on Monday and then begin Chapter 15 on Thursday. 5th: We will take our Chapter 16 quiz on Tuesday and begin Chapter 17 on Friday. 3rd grade will have their Chapter 14 quiz on Thursday this week. 4th Grade rehearsals happen on Thursday so they will take their quiz next Monday.
K-2: We will be learning the word "portus" which means harbor or port. We will also be learning the words "sinister" and "dexter" which mean left and right.
3rd-4th: Students will complete their Ch. 14 study guide on this Monday and should take them home to study before our Chapter 14 quiz, which is planned for next week Monday. 5th: Students will complete their Ch. 16 study guide on this Friday and should take them home to study over the weekend. They will take their Chapter 16 quiz on the following Tuesday. |
